Advice for the LGBTQ+ Community

Advice for all

Everyone should be able to access a safe environment to talk about money confidently and confidentially.

For many people, finding someone you can trust is a big step and we recognise that if you identify as LGBTQ+, it can be an even bigger step. Talking about money is a topic that most people find difficult regardless of their background or how they identify.

We want everyone from the LGBTQ+ community to know that they can come to us for expert financial advice that will help them build their future, their way. We are here to listen to you, get to know you and support you without judgement.

How we can support you

We understand the additional barriers and complexities that LGBTQ+ clients and their families may encounter when it comes to financial planning and we here to support you through them. We know that one size does not fit all, but these might include:

  • Inheritance planning

Inheritance planning can be more complex in same-sex partnerships. Not marrying may impact spousal rights in terms of pensions, for example and careful estate planning will be crucial so that your assets can be passed on to your loved ones. We will take the time to listen to your individual circumstances and help you to ensure that your intended beneficiaries are secure, should the worst happen.

  • Raising a family

Raising a family is costly for everyone, but LGBTQ+ people have fewer options available to them. The processes that are available can be both expensive and emotionally stressful. Private IVF and surrogacy involves high costs, and then you need to consider the potential impact of having children on your earnings and pensions. We can help you plan for these costs. If you are not ready to start a family yet, but it’s something that you might consider in the future, early planning will really make a difference.

  • Gender identity on application forms

We know that completing titles on application forms that might not include your preferred title or gender can be difficult. We will do our best to help you navigate this, or equally, if you prefer, we can give you privacy when filling in medical forms for protection insurance. Whilst we know that things are not perfect in this respect, we are happy to say that some of our providers are taking appropriate steps to be more reflective of the LGBTQ+ community.

Our approach

We know that our trust has to be earned and we want to reassure you that we might not have all the answers right away, but we will do everything we can to support your needs and will always ensure confidentiality.

All our clients are unique and we recognise and celebrate the diversity in lifestyles within the LGBTQ+ community. We are here to support you to make the right financial decisions for you, your circumstances and your future goals.
